The Saints Come Marching In!
This year, All Saints Day occurs this Sunday, November 1st. We invite any children who want to dress up as Saints on Sunday to take part in the entrance procession of the 10 a.m. Mass in English in St. Philip Neri Church or at the 12:30 p.m. Mass in Spanish in Holy Name Church. Children in appropriate Saints costumes should wait in the lobby of either church shortly before the Mass begins.
From Fr. Cook's bulletin article: All Souls' Day and MonthThe entire month of November is dedicated to the Poor Souls in Purgatory. Throughout the month, we offer additional prayers, penances, and sacrifices for all our deceased family and friends and, especially, for all the forgotten Souls in Purgatory. We will offer a special Mass in English on All Souls Day on Monday, November 2
nd, in St. Philip Neri Church at 8:15 a.m.
From The Abbot's Circle, St. Michael's AbbeyThere are special indulgences or graces we can receive for praying for the souls in purgatory during the month of November.
A
plenary indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory, is granted to the faithful who,
- On any and each day from November 1 to 8, devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, if only mentally, for the departed;
- on All Souls' Day (or, according to the judgment of the ordinary, on the Sunday preceding or following it, or on the Solemnity of All Saints), devoutly visit a church or an oratory and recite an Our Father and the Creed.
A
partial indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory, is granted to the faithful who,
- devoutly visit a cemetery and at least mentally pray for the dead;
- or devoutly recite lauds or vespers from the Office of the Dead or the prayer Requiem aeternam (Eternal rest).
